Linearity is a design and animation software company based in Berlin, Germany. Its user base includes big names like Amazon, Apple, McDonald’s, Google, NASA, and SpaceX. Linearity is the brainchild of founder Vladimir Danila, who was just 17 years old when he launched the platform’s first vector design app, Vectornator.
Our founder & CEO, Vlad Shvets, was previously the first business hire at Vectr, the first web vector graphics editor launched a week before Figma in 2016 (and later acquired by Inmagine Group in 2018). He also co-founded Phase, a digital design software company. Vlad grew Vectr from zero to 0.5 million users within 12 months, primarily through SEO, app stores, and digital PR.
Linearity teamed up with Empact Partners for our unique expertise in the expanding creative SaaS industry. When we started working together, Linearity was a tiny team of 5 people.
It’s been one heck of a journey! In the past 5 years, Linearity has grown to over 50 employees across 19 countries and raised $35 million in Series A funding. Vladimir was named one of Forbes’ 30 under 30 (Europe — Technology) in 2024.
Empact Challenge
A highly competitive creative software market. The brand's biggest challenge then was launching a new, Apple-only creative software platform into the ‘red sea’ of Adobe products and its competitors. At that time, Vectornator was a product only for iPhone and iPad. It had:
- No website
- No online presence
This presented a unique positioning challenge. Vectornator was clearly an underdog. But we’re always rooting for the underdog. We worked closely with their product team to launch the software into a crowded market, focusing on its features appealing to a niche of creatives.
Product Rebranding
Later, Linearity’s ICP shifted from illustrators and hobbyists to professional graphic designers. Vectornator rebranded to Linearity Curve and introduced advanced features for professionals.
The software was monetized after the launch of their animation software Linearity Move in 2023. Linearity’s software suite changed to serve marketing and creative teams, and we needed to help ramp up their GTM.
Empact Roadmap
We created Linearity’s inbound marketing funnel from top to bottom to grow its user base organically and sustainably. Linearity’s growth achievements include:
- 0 to 250K+ monthly organic website traffic.
- 11 million App downloads for Linearity products.
- Average App Store rating of 4.7/5 stars.
- Apple’s "Editor's Choice" label.
- Nominated for the Apple Design Awards (2022) & App of the Year Awards (2023)
Here’s how we made an empact.
Launched Website & Iterated
The first thing we needed to do was create an online presence for the company and its software. We strategized and supported Linearity in building their website and assisted with future iterations to ensure optimal search engine discoverability.
Created Thought Leadership Blog From Scratch (400+ Articles)
From technical SEO to content creation, we manage Linearity’s blog alongside their marketing team. Our highly skilled subject matter experts create diverse content on all things design and creativity. Linearity’s blog is now a high-ranking Publication in design — even on competitor topics.
Designer Community
To make the software known in the space and create some buzz, we also leveraged external platforms where their users hang out. It required a fair amount of research and continued engagement to show up Linearity as the new kid on the creative software block.
Strategic Growth Hacks
Sustainable growth in SaaS often requires in-depth knowledge of the niche and insights into future trends. Growth hacking is all about boosting revenue in unorthodox ways. With Linearity, we hacked existing online structures to increase qualified leads signing up for their software. We also worked closely with their marketing and community managers on mini-projects to boost traffic growth and website clicks.
With Empact Partners building their GTM, we helped Linearity grow from an underdog mobile design app to a full-fledged creative software punching above its weight class.
