Are you familiar with the term existing article outreach (EAO)? Probably not, because this is an Empact Invention! 

The name explains precisely what it is. We contact companies with blogs that have existing software listicles so that we can list our partner’s software or products.

This helps with SERP real estate, which is all about helping our partners make it to the "shortlist." B2B SaaS buyers usually create a mental or a real shortlist of tools to try out before buying, and if we help our partners’ products make it to that list, they have better chances of winning the race and getting new customers.

The bottom-line goal is driving quality B2B leads. Everything else is secondary KPIs, e.g. improving the site’s DR or getting backlinks. Getting included in a listicle, even without a direct link, still helps a given software product to make it to the shortlist.

We’ve been using the EAO framework for all our partners. It’s what we call a “low-hanging fruit” project that we try to run in the first months when starting to work with SaaS companies.

Why EAO Works 

First, if you look at the screenshot below, you’ll see how many software listicles exist. I filtered the search for sites with a DR of 50+ and website traffic of 5K. I also used the search query ‘best saas products.’

According to Ahrefs, at least 700 software listicles, which means there are 700 opportunities for you to get your product listed. Our team has worked hard to get our partners featured in these listicles according to their niche. 

One of our partners got over $300,000 yearly because their listicle-driven referral traffic produced this revenue stream. Our partner achieved $34,995 of recurring monthly income due to its listings on multiple targeted shortlists. 

The individual placement of a single listicle helps software businesses attain more than 50 qualified leads per month, increasing exponentially with greater visibility.

Our Partner’s Success With EAO

Our partner’s product is a PDF editing tool software, and we got them listed in over 10 listicles and featured in the top 5 positions, which helped them get more conversions and visibility.

The listicle placements boosted their search visibility for competitive keywords, driving referral traffic to the website. Their organic traffic grew by 168%, with over 7,000 visitors referred directly to listicles.

So, we also did a Black Friday campaign for the same partner. 

Most SaaS companies create articles like ‘Best Black Friday SaaS Deals’ for B2B buyers to get their hands on the best software deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We managed to add the same partner to 15 listicles, and they generated a 16.29% ROI

They had 230 purchases on Black Friday, which totaled $18,400. This was only from getting them listed in the software deals. If you add this to the rest of their Black Friday sales made from social media marketing and ads, you could say they had a successful Black Friday campaign.
